Force Protocol Version. In an RSTP Bridge, this variable can take the value 0 (indicating that the RSTP state machines operate in STP Compatibility. mode) or 2 (the default value, indicating that the RSTP state machines operate normally). In STP Compatibility mode, rapid transitions of Alternate Ports to Root Ports, and rapid transitions of Designated Ports to Forwar- ding, are disabled, and the RSTP algorithm transmits Configuration BPDUs and TCN BPDUs only. Any received RST BPDUs are discarded. In normal RSTP operation (ForceVersion == 2), RST BPDUs are tran- smitted, unless a legacy system is detected by a Port and indica- ted by the operation of the Port Protocol Migration state machine, in which case version 0 Configuration BPDUs and TCN BPDUs are transmitted on that Port.
