'guard interval' is an amount of 'dead time' between
transmission of symbols. Prior to 802.11n, the inter-symbol
'guard interval' was specified as 800 nanoseconds. 802.11n
allows for a 'short guard interval' of 400 nanoseconds to
enhance throughput.
