A zero indicated no Echo Request and any other value provides an interval to send Echo-Requests to the Peer. The Echo-Request provides a Data Link Layer loopback mechanism for use in exercising both directions of the link. This is useful in debugging, link quality determination. LCP MUST be in the OPENED state for an Echo-Request to occur.
