This is the fiber distance between the OLT and the nearest ONT. For GPON, the fiber distance between the OLT and the nearest ONT is 0 km to 40 km while the maximum fiber distance between the farthest and the nearest ONTs is 20 km. For XG-PON, the fiber distance between the OLT and the nearest ONT is 0 km to 60 km while the maximum fiber distance between the farthest and the nearest ONTs is 40 km.
