Terminology:
Optical Power Regulation Process
- The continuous process of ensuring that the current optical power is aligned with the (user
defined) wanted optical power target. If the target cannot be reached, alarms will be raised.
Regulation Sequence
- Optical power regulation is a slow process, therefore it is mostly in an idle state. The Optical
Power Regulation Process is invoked from time to time based on timers and/or user commands. At
such a time a Regulation Sequence is executed until it meets either of these conditions:
- The wanted optical power target is reached, or
- A boundary condition is hit (results in a fault)
A Regulation Sequence consists of one or more Regulation Iterations. Multiple iterations are
needed in case Attenuation Adjustment(s) are made. The number of iterations in a Regulation
Sequence is limited to a small number.
Regulation Iteration
- During a Regulation Iteration the process simply compares the current and wanted power, and
makes an Attenuation Adjustment, if needed.
Attenuation Adjustment
- If the current power is too far from the target during a Regulation Iteration, then the
attenuation is changed.
Regulation Time Interval
- The (user selectable) time between the completion of one Regulation Sequence and the start
of the next Regulation Sequence.
