The type of the parameter.  All types are integer-
valued except 'string', which is string-valued.

boolean:    0 == FALSE, non-zero == TRUE
ticks:      1 tick == 3600/65535 == approx 55 millisecs
blockShift: integer
timeOffset: [+|-]hh:mm:ss converted to seconds
string:     character string
